Shivers is a single-player horror-themed PC adventure game, released on CD-ROM by Sierra On-Line in November 1995. It was developed with Sierra's Creative Interpreter. Being the first Sierra first-person adventure game, Shivers was compared to contemporary Myst and The 7th Guest, gaining praise mostly for its atmosphere. The game is similar to Myst in many aspects in that it's an adventure game with a 1st-person slideshow-type presentation. Though unlike Myst, you have a life meter and the Ixupi can steal life from it if you aren't careful. edit description view history. About This Game Shiver is a beautiful and chilling point-and-click horror adventure from Kowai Sugoi Studios. As you explore the recently closed Windy Oaks National Park, you must rely on your wits and bravery to conquer challenges and search for rescue.

Welcome to Cyclone, a bizarre little town on the edge of madness in a remote corner of Arizona. It's not quite a ghost town, but hopefully most of the more despicable characters have disappeared.

Can we please get the sequel to this?

Hey guys! For anyone interested in playing Shivers 1 on Windows, visit Mnuemonic Games's Facebook page. They have a 'demo' of the game that works wonderfully on modern Windows (and also Android), even my Windows 10. However, it does start from the office, and it won't have the movie clips throughout. If you want the full game and still have the original disc for it, you can replace three files in the demo with the CD's version: resmap.000, ressci.000, resource.sfx. Don't forget to copy and paste the movie folder with all of the clips into the demo's folder, too! After that, it starts you from the very beginning. So far, I've gotten to the tunnels behind the library, and everything works flawlessly.
Best thing is that it's all totally free. You just need to make sure you copy and replace those important files.

Great game!

The game actually does support DOS.
I just tried installing it from the original disk and on XP the compatibility test says I should try running the DOS version of the game.
I'm assuming it's MS-DOS.
Anyway Windows 95 should run the game just fine.
There are torrents of this game that come with DOSBOX preconfigured to run this software.

I know can run Windows 3.1 via Dosbox, maybe you could get a copy of Win 9x and do that also?

Sara2014-06-04-1 point Windows version

It wasn't for Dos. I remember running it on 98 so maybe it needed 95? I think I also ran it in xp but I think I needed a patch

Mirror game patch mac. The acclaimed adventure game is back. Unravel the mystery of the Black Mirror in a gothic horror tale inspired by authors like EA Poe & HP Lovecraft. This game is pretty awesome, I was addicted to it back in high school. For some reason though I can't get it to run now. It doesn't want to run in Windows 8.1 and so I downloaded DosBox, but it won't run in Dos either, it says it requires windows. Rock and a hard place I guess, but great memories anyway.

ChettaCheeze2014-01-061 point Windows version

I love this game. I remember back when I was younger and my older sister, my brother and myself all crammed around the computer screen to figure out the puzzles and getting scared like all little kids do by the creepy and sudden scares to pop up on screen.

Shivers is a game where four of your 'friends' lock you in an abandoned and supposedly haunted museum for the night as part of a dare. Unbeknownst to any of you, a pair of teenagers fifteen years ago had snuck in and released the Ixupi, ancient Mayan spirits, who promptly killed the two. And now you must capture them all to survive the night.

Oh, and did we mention this museum was built by a professor who filled the place with puzzles so hard they were too difficult for him to solve when he tried to recapture the Ixupi?

Unused Graphics

To do:
Rest of the stuff from the cited page by akril15. Mostly the mockups of MS Paint-style puzzles

Unused Cursors

EarlyUnusedFinal

Two early versions of the player's cursor. The first cursor uses a hand, rather than the 'sword' used in later revisions. This version also lacks a 'get up' variation. The second cursor is closer to the final, though it lacks some coloring and is overall less refined.

Alternate Shots

Unused
Used

The third slot from the right originally had the same pattern as the walls of the room (visible behind the puzzle itself). This was later replaced with a more place light-purple color. The top row of holes change from indents to actual holes, and a catcher was placed at the bottom of the device.

Unused
Used

This picture has a duplicate with NEED SHOT crudely written over it. It's unknown what shot was needed, exactly.

Unused
Used

There are many early renders of the second floor that are well-lit and less disorderly than they end up being, resembling a museum before it gets run over by Mayan spirits.

Unused
Used

While there is a pencil on this desk, it's normally not visible in the closeup of the tape recorder.

Beth and Merrick's Note

EarlyUnusedFinal

There are a total of 3 versions of Beth and Merrick's note on the podium (not counting the view of it with the theater behind it). The first is a very early rendition, with all the writing in black and the handwriting of the two switched. The difference between the other two is the color of Merrick's pen. The one in blue-purple ink is assumed to be the one that shows up in-game.

Inaccessible Clocktower View

This view of the surveillance cameras in the clocktower is never accessible, so the monitors show their number instead of an actual image. Most likely said numbers were used as reference in development.

Merrick's Pocketknife

This is the pocketknife that holds the note to the lectern in the final game. It appears that the pocketknife was initially going to be stuck in the front of the stage. This view can't be accessed through normal gameplay, however..

The knife can be seen, when viewed from either side of the seating from a distance. It's more obvious when the curtains are open and a spotlight shines on the knife, as seen to the left in this picture.

The knife also has been in two positions on the lectern. In the final it's stuck in the top of the note (which can be seen as a near-vertical line in the final note above, to the right of 'Beth—'). Pictures with the knife in the bottom of the paper, such as this one, seem to be unused. This one in particular shows a blank note, and according to the shadows, a floating lamp and knife.

Marcia Bales Insult

Someone apparently didn't like Marcia Bales, the game's designer.

Unused Ixupi

This appears to be an animation of the Stone Ixupi in the tower stairs. This Ixupi never appears in-game, only serving as the Ixupi that killed Windlenot in the backstory.

For

Demo Leftovers

What appear to be screens leftover from a demo version of the game. Note that the game was released in September instead of November. It's unknown if there's a way to trigger these in the current game.

Unused Music

An unused version of the music that plays in the halls. This version is much slower and darker. It's unknown where this would've been used.
