Repair Game Origin Mac Rating: 4,9/5 9672 reviews

EA Origin is less feature rich in my opinion to interface with as compare to Steam, Uplay, GOG and Other PC Games clients. In Steam, there is a clear backup and restore feature for Games as well as Apps. In Uplay and GOG, you can simply copy Games folder and then relocate them upon restore. But in Origin, you won’t come across such option for easy backup and restore of already downloaded games.

I have been seeing this here since day one when anyone has any problem such a true bug and or glitches in the game they are told to Use Origin to Repair the Game. I understand 'what' you do, however, being a curious cat, I'm not hardly believing that actually does anything.

As Mass Effect Andromeda is one of the recent major titles to release on Origin by EA, I wanted to backup and relocate my 43GB+ downloaded files of Mass Effect Andromeda to another PC, and also keep a backup on my external hard disk, but no luck, so I had to bang my head around for quite some time in searching for an absolute solution only to figure out the workaround instead, which also an official solution given by EA.

  • @EADavid, Thanks for the info, but it's not there. I've attached a screenshot of what I see, and whenever I click 'install' it doesn't work. Redownloading the game right now is impractical, so if there's another way to verify the game files, or repair the game, or even get the repair button back, that would be great.
  • Jul 19, 2015 This is how you repair your games if your having a problem with any Origin downloaded game (EA) Disclaimer: I know the title says with any origin game, and it usually will work. However, some of.

So if you want to Backup and Restore/Relocate Games on Origin (Version: 10.4.6.33873), follow following steps:

Repair Game Origin Machine

  • Copy the Game folder from Origin Games folder to your desired storage location, the default path for Origin Games is C:Program Files (x86)Origin Games.

Now While Restoring/Relocating your game:

  • Open Origin Client, Go to Application Settings -> Installs and Saves and Then select ‘Game library location‘ to your desired location.
  • Go to the My Games Library, select Game you want to restore/relocate, and click on Install. (If you don’t see the install option means you have not removed the Game folder from original location after Copying. I advice you to rename it instead of deleting so that you have an extra backup.)
  • After clicking install, as you see the installation progress starts to begin, Pause the installation and Exit the Origin client.
  • Now go to the storage drive path you have selected in ‘Game library location’ and paste your copied Game folder in it and Replace(Overwrite) the existing files if prompted.
  • Now after Copy of files gets complete, go ahead and Start the Origin client again and resume the download and You should see the Installation progress bar skips to the End.

Sometimes it doesn’t accept all of the copied files and installation doesn’t exactly progresses till the end, but you save most of the bandwidth was going to waste originally. This could save several bucks for Gamers with limited download bandwidth. I still don’t understand Why Origin has to keep Backup and Restore feature of installed Games so tedious, everyone doesn’t have the Open bandwidth and download limit to install Games of size in Tons of GBs in an instant. I hope Origin brings improvements to Backup and Restore feature in future releases, meanwhile hope this guide helps you.

  • I read this explanation from another forum. I'd like it, but it won't let me.
'Essentially, it compares your installed game files with the files on the Origin server and re-downloads any files that are different. It will also repair registry entries for the game if any have been altered or erased.'

Then I'm thinking it is only repairing the DRM then? Because if I download my game from Origin and then my files should be exactly what is on Origin's server. And the only time something can change something in my Registry is when the server changes it due to their patches etc.
I know files in the game program can be messed up and or altered and even removed when using mods that or script mods etc. however, if no one ever used a mod or CC then I'm failing to understand why any code would be missing at all.

  • Basically it will look for broken files and fix them. Sometimes when downloading or patching a game parts of files will get lost duringthe transfer process. Repair fixes stuff like that.
If the issues are not due to broken files (e.g.hardware/driver issues) it won't help though.
  • it shouldn't be reading your game data files, mods are installed there it just should be reviewing your program ones thus mods arent at play. but also there arent any core mods for 4 that im aware of directly changing program files.
and DRM is just the means to prevent sharing the game i doubt repairing the game even focuses on this.

Not necessairly, if you use steam then you may know about 'Validating Game cache'. Repairing the game is the same
In theory yes, what you download should be the exact same as what you are meant to have, but sometiems something can go wrong as in Murphy Law, you may accidently install something or a install a mod that by some miracle changes a core file destroying the game. Like the text code bug issue, it is because the game file isn't properly downloaded. Repairing File usually fixes any damage to any files that somehow have occured.
It's a good thing to have since you don't have to uninstall and reinstall the game in 90% of cases.
  • Pretty sure from what we've seen in the tech and bugs forums that Repair Game for this game is touching only program files and registry entries, not game data files.

  • It's just like when you install any other type of software or program onto your computer. You can go to your control panel then to programs list and from there you can either uninstall the program or repair them. EA was just nice enough to also put theirs right in Origin for ease of use.

  • All I can say is it Worked For Me! And it was super simple , easy, and free!
Actually it was 'Sims 2 Ultimate'. Silly me, I ran 'Norton Registry Cleaner'. I forgot the reason. But apparently it removed something in the registry for sims 2 ultimate.
And clicking 'repair' on the icon on origin fixed it. It took only a few minutes. So I would Guess it restores any missing registry files, or any other files it finds corrupt or missing.
  • It doesn't do anything that affects saved files, does it? All my saved games will still be there, right?

Yes, they will. But if you want to relieve any anxiety about it, just copy that whole Sims 4 folder somewhere else as backup
